pn2511 A document introducing the theory of Tesla secondary resonators.
Updated: 18 Jun 2002
These notes provide a basic introduction to the theory of solenoid resonance,
with the emphasis on Tesla secondary resonators. The solenoid is described in
terms of
distributed physical reactance functions and these are used to derive the differential equations for the solenoid.
The solutions relevant to Tesla secondary operation are examined and proper definitions are given for
the effective capacitance and inductance of the coil.
The reader will require some familiarity with calculus and phasor notation, in addition to a general appreciation
of the elementary laws of electromagnetism and circuit theory.
